The ever evolving relationship between Megan Fox and Michael Bay

>> Wednesday, September 15, 2010

Megan Fox walked away from “Transformers 3″ because director Michael Bay was “verbally abusive” toward her and “she had enough and decided to get out early,” an individual close to the actress has told TheWrap.

TheWrap’s emails to Bay’s representation were not immediately returned.

Contacted by TheWrap, Fox’s publicist would only reiterate a statement released Wednesday night to People.com, saying the actress “left the project on her own and wishes the franchise well.”

That doesn’t square with the version Paramount put forth Wednesday, when the studio confirmed to TheWrap that Fox’s option hadn’t been picked up for the third installment of the blockbuster franchise as a result of the new direction of Ehren Kruger’s screenplay.

Given that the story broke Wednesday on Deadline, it’s highly plausible that Paramount studio chairman Brad Grey’s well-known relationship with editor-in-chief Nikki Finke played a part in how the story was initially spun.

The studio stood by that position on Thursday with the statement: “Paramount had the unilateral right to exercise an option for Megan Fox to appear in ‘Transformers 3.’ Paramount at its sole election allowed the option to lapse.”

And while Deal Central was skeptical at first that Fox would walk away from such a lucrative role, persistent whispers around Hollywood indicated that there was another side of the story.

TheWrap’s calls to Paramount on Thursday evening were not immediately returned.

Bay has a history of demeaning his leading ladies, including “Pearl Harbor” star Kate Beckinsale; an individual close to the actress recalled that the director “wasn’t very nice” to her on the set, either.

Apparently, Fox wasn’t the only “Transformers” cast member affected by Bay’s rude behavior. TheWrap also learned that “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” star Isabel Lucas chose not to join her co-stars on a publicity tour for the film because she didn’t get along with the director, who was described as being “too powerful” and “not well-liked” by the female talent community.

It’s no secret that Bay has a reputation for being an extremely controlling filmmaker who can be difficult to work with at times — but directors aren’t required to be “nice.” Just ask George Clooney and Lily Tomlin, the respective stars of David O. Russell’s “Three Kings” and “I Heart Huckabees.”

Another individual close to the sequel’s production told TheWrap that Bay “wants his actresses to look a certain way, and if they can’t meet his absurd standards of beauty, he gets rid of them.”

Megan Fox Left ‘Transformers’ Because of Michael Bay’s Abusive Ways
Director was not happy with the star’s looks, made no attempt at hiding it

Speculation is starting to build up as to why Megan Fox has decided to leave the “Transformers” franchise.

This week, a rumor that had been making the rounds for months was confirmed, much to the disappointment of true fans: Megan Fox had left “Transformers” and would not be appearing in the third installment of the franchise. Talk of how director Michael Bay had fired her for being an obnoxious star who’d always shoot off her mouth without thinking of consequences was followed by a statement from the star, saying she’d left of her own accord. More on her departure has emerged and it seems Bay was indeed the one who pushed Fox over the edge.

TheWrap has learned from sources on the set that Megan decided to leave the franchise because she could no longer take Bay’s abuse. The director, known for being very strict and demanding of his stars, reportedly enforces a code on how the actors he works with, especially women, must look and, for one reason or another, Fox no longer fit in it. To make her see that, Bay would often abuse her verbally in front of other members of the staff (this also happened while shooting for “Transformers 2”) and she decided she no longer wanted to go through that again.

“Megan Fox walked away from ‘Transformers 3’ because director Michael Bay was ‘verbally abusive’ toward her and ‘she had enough and decided to get out early,’ an individual close to the actress has told TheWrap. […] It’s no secret that Bay has a reputation for being an extremely controlling filmmaker who can be difficult to work with at times. […] Another individual close to the sequel’s production told TheWrap that Bay wants his actresses to look a certain way, and if they can’t meet his absurd standards of beauty, he gets rid of them’,” the aforementioned movie publication says.

Though the story might be somewhat of an exaggeration, other media outlets also claim that Fox’s departure had something to do with her deteriorating relationship with the director. The Sun, for instance, says Bay felt that Fox was getting too thin and that she was a far cry from her curvy, healthy-looking self in the second film. Given that she was in for some weight loss with the physically demanding scenes in the threequel, Bay asked her to gain some weight, which she refused to do, choosing instead to just leave.

“Megan stormed out after a huge row with Michael Bay. He thinks she has lost too much weight and looks too frail. He wanted her to put on some weight and it all kicked off. The crew don’t think she looks well, let alone the wholesome, curvy star they cast in the first film. She’s going for this gaunt, pale image and it just looks unhealthy,” a source from the production tells the British tab. Right now, though, both Paramount and Fox are standing by their initial story, saying only that the actress is no longer a part of the “Transformers” family.

Will Megan Sink or Swim Without Transformers?

Just last year actress Megan Fox was one of Hollywood’s hottest commodities, appearing on every major magazine cover and dominating red carpets around the globe. But with a diva reputation and news that she will no longer be a part of the film franchise that made her a star, is Megan Fox’s time in Hollywood almost up?

Despite rampant speculation that she was fired from the third installment of ‘Transformers,’ Fox has said she chose to leave the blockbuster on her own accord, with many speculating she had had enough of director Michael Bay’s “verbal abuse” and wanted out. And the beef between the two certainly comes as no surprise – in the past, Fox has referred to her former boss as “Hitler” and he reportedly said she needs to “grow up.”

But given that her other movie attempts have been box office flops (most recently, “Jennifer’s Body” debuted at a dismal number five, earning just $6.8 million), and that she’s been slammed by movie crews, will other big name directors be willing to take a gamble and hire the 23-year-old star?

“It’s never a good idea to speak negatively about a director you work with – it’s a small community,” said Hollywood producer Nathan Folks. “Actors sometimes think they can get away with anything, the egos some possess are out of control. When they stop getting work, they will learn.”

Matt Atchity, the editor in chief for movie site Rotten Tomatoes, echoed Folks’ sentiment.

“You have to question the motives of an actor who is turning down a role in a movie that is going to be massive,” Atchity said. “Michael Bay does big blockbusters. They do a ton of business and you get them in front of a bunch of people. They may not be critically acclaimed, but you can’t say that those movies are not successful.”

On the flip side, if Bay’s alleged on-set “abuse” is in any way accurate, perhaps Fox should be hailed for speaking out.

An undisclosed source close to Megan says the startlet recently had a scare with skin cancer which she disclosed in this month’s issue of Allure. The source reveals, “Megan is really frightened about skin cancer because of the harsh tanning from the last movie. She knew it’d be something Michael wouldn’t be willing to compromise on, but…it’s her life at stake. More sun damage, simply wasn’t an option.”

“If Megan was indeed verbally abused, and pulls back the curtain on what is really going on in Hollywood, and tells her story to the right person like Oprah, she could reach icon status,” said Associated Press pop culture reporter Natalie Rotman. “There has been a long history of tyrant male directors in Hollywood. If Bay really did verbally abuse Fox and she is the first to speak up to a bully director, it could make her a pioneer.”

Still, Fox might have trouble pulling on the public’s heart strings, especially with her negative reputation.

“Megan has got some work to do to keep her current persona from affecting the roles that she’s going to get, or if she’s going to be able to get roles at all because no production is going to want somebody that has been seen as trouble,” Atchity added. “You get yourself labeled as problematic and troublesome, and that’s kind of the kiss of death.”

So is Fox is going away – or is she here to stay?

“Only time will tell if Megan Fox is a hero or a liability,” Rotman added. “If she makes the right choices, she could definitely have what it takes to sustain a very lucrative career.”

And who knows, maybe she is much smarter than most give her credit for.

“If ‘Transformers 3′ tanks, then she’ll be seen as the genius who got out early,” said Atchity.

Stay tuned….

Introducing The New “Megan Fox”

Nothing like a former Victoria’s Secret lingerie model to get Optimus primed. Good thing they did not select a top pornstar to take the challenge.

Multiple sources confirm to E! News that model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley will be replacing the MIA Megan Fox as Shia LaBeouf’s love interest in Transformers 3.

“She’s accepted the offer, and I think they’re just waiting for her to get her work visa since she’s British,” says a source close to the production.

And, as usual when it comes to a Michael Bay explosionfest, hotness wins out over talent…

See, Huntington-Whiteley has never acted before. But she did work with Transformers helmer Bay last year on a Victoria’s Secret commercial—and apparently the two hit it off.

“Michael Bay has flown her out here a few times to screen test,” says another production insider.

“She has absolutely zero acting experience, so we’ll see how that goes. But he likes her, and that’s all that matters.”

Which is more than can be said for Fox, whose relationship with the notoriously prickly director publicly deteriorated, with her comparing him to Hitler.

Meanwhile, sources confirm that Huntington-Whiteley will be playing a completely new character, not the same role as Fox.

There was no immediate comment from Bay, Huntington-Whiteley or Paramount.

Aside from Huntington-Whiteley, Bay was reportedly considering a number of other lookers for the part, including Miranda Kerr, Vanessa Hudgens and Bar Refaeli.

Principal shooting is set to kick off in July. Aside from Huntington-Whiteley, other newcomers to the cast will include some badass new robots along with humans Patrick Dempsey, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand and Ken Jeong.

Transformers Without Megan Fox – the Consequences

“Transformers” co-star Tyrese Gibson is upset that original franchise hottie Megan Fox is out of the picture for the third entry, FOXNews.com reported Monday.

After weeks of speculation, it was announced on “Transformers” director Michael Bay’s official website last Thursday that Victoria’s Secret supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whitely would indeed be replacing Fox in the third installment of the successful action series. The post encouraged fans to “welcome” the 23-year-old British beauty into the “world of ‘Transformers.’”

“I am sad [to see Fox go],” Gibson told FOXNews.com at the MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
“Transformers” co-star Tyrese Gibson is upset Megan Fox is out of the picture for the third installement of the series.

And he certainly sounded less than warm and welcoming when we asked if he was excited that Rosie was now on board.

“I just wish that the original team would have never been broken,” he quickly responded.

Oddly enough, the post announcing Rosie’s new role has since been removed from Bay’s site.

In spite of Fox’s departure, Gibson assured us that fans won’t be disappointed with the technical aspects of the highly-anticipated flick.

“It’s going to be crazy, man. I read the script a couple weeks ago and it’s another level,” he added.

Megan Said She Lied During Interviews

The sultry leading lady known as Megan Fox has come clean in the latest edition of Interview magazine. The 24-year-old beauty posed for the magazine donning an old-school brown bob wig, as she posed provocatively with a lifeless female mannequin. The magazine spread dishes that Fox asked to keep the mannequin’s head as a memento at the end of the shoot.

The lovely actress also comes clean about telling mistruths to those that interview her for magazines and other media outlets. “I don’t want to open my mouth or speak anymore,” Fox tells interviewer Zach Galifianakis. “Everything I say becomes scandalous.”

Despite the fact that Ms. Fox seems to be on every red carpet, award show and magazine cover, she explains, “I’m one of those people who fiercely guards their privacy, so I hate doing interviews.”

She readily admits to some dishonesty during interviews to protect herself and her personal life.”I have said some things to throw people off the scent of what’s really going on in my life. So I have sort of aided the media in printing these misconceptions, which I regret.”

She also says that “at this point, I’m not going to go out of my way to mislead people…. that doesn’t really get me anywhere”

To any one who has access to a computer, the TV or magazines, Megan’s rise to fame has been a steep one. Megan began acting and modeling at the age of 13 after winning several accolades at the 1999 American Modeling and Talent Convention in Hilton Head, South Carolina. She then made her movie debut as “Brianna Wallace” in the Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen movie, Holiday in the Sun. She continued her career staring in the television sitcom Hope and Faith. She ascended into the mainstream by staring in the Transformers Franchise.

Even though Megan Fox has opted out of returning to the Transformers 3 set ,she will being a theater near you very soon in Jonah Hex, an action-adventure movie that also stars Josh Brolin.

In the latest issue of Interview, Zach Galifianakis asks Megan Fox about comparing Michael Bay to Hitler. Her response? “Surprise! I pull shit out of my ass for no reason.” Via NY Daily News:

“In the past, I’ve been reluctant to share any bits of truth about myself or to really let people in on my reality,” Fox told Galifianakis. “So I have said some things to throw people off the scent of what’s really going on in my life. So I have sort of aided the media in printing these misconceptions, which I regret.“

Whoever’s handling Megan Fox’s publicity needs to lock her in a room until her response to every single question thrown at her is “Tee hee. You’re cute.” I know that might rile up some feminists, but she can’t be doing you ladies any favors as it is. Thanks to Megan Fox, I now immediately tune out women without even waiting to see if they want to have sex. Although, in honesty, that’s more to do with efficiency. Time is money, people.

Megan Fox got a tattoo in honor of Mickey Rourke

Megan Fox has enjoyed her fair share of high-concept movie roles in the past several years, with characters ranging from a demonic succubus in “Jennifer’s Body” to a gun-slinging prostitute in “Jonah Hex.” But her upcoming turn as a winged circus freak in director Mitch Glazer’s “Passion Play” might be her most surreal yet — thanks largely to the assistance of co-star Mickey Rourke.

“Mickey is such a beautiful, wonderful human being,” Fox told MTV News. “He’s so genuine and so sweet and so talented. I just love him to death. I kept telling him that he needs to have kids, because I think he’s going to be an amazing dad. I hope he does that soon.”

The words “genuine and sweet” might not be the first to come to mind for moviegoers who know Rourke best for his menacing turns in “Iron Man 2,” “The Wrestler” and “Sin City.” But Fox confessed that she feels a bond with Rourke because they are both celebrities who march to the beat of their own drummers and say what they feel. In fact, Fox’s admiration for Rourke goes so far that she got inked up in his honor.

“I actually got a tattoo that is sort of in honor of him,” she revealed. “It’s on my ribs. I don’t know if it’s been photographed yet, but it’ll come out eventually, I’m sure. I just love him very much and think he’s very special.”

Diablo Cody Talks About Megan Fox

Oscar-winning writer Diablo Cody sat down with fans in San Francisco for a Q and A this past weekend to discuss the season finale of United States of Tara, her just-finished screenplay for Sweet Valley High, and her film Jennifer’s Body. The plan was to watch the “much misunderstood” Jennifer’s Body in a “neo-sincere” environment and then discuss. (In case you’re wondering, a neo-sincere person is post ironic; someone who knows she can make fun of something, but doesn’t need to.) The Juno writer, who is very pregnant herself, had much to say about women and feminism in Hollywood. I happened to attend, so here’s some insight I picked up.

On how United States of Tara represents a theme found in all her work: “I feel like everything I’ve done has dealt with exactly the same thing – about being a female, but not being able to decide what type of female you want to be. I feel like I’m in conflict, personally.”

On Sweet Valley High: “It’s another f*cking movie about the Madonna and the Whore running around wreaking havoc.”

On Megan Fox: “People really hate Megan. She’s a really nice girl. She’s just outspoken.”

On a Hollywood double standard: “Women aren’t allowed to be anti-heroes or flawed. Megan got lambasted for talking about Michael Bay. Shia LaBeouf criticized another director, and he got called ‘refreshing’ and ‘honest,’ while Megan is a bimbo who should never work again. Women aren’t allowed to be as complicated as men.”

On being a feminist filmmaker: “If anything we’re less post-gender than 10 years ago. The Kathryn Bigelow thing was awesome, but it’s difficult to be a feminist filmmaker. No one wants you pressing your feminist agenda on nice clean celluloid. It doesn’t sell.”

On how she depicts youth: “People say ‘teenage girls aren’t so clever. Your characters should be less articulate to reflect our youth.’ People who say that aren’t spending time with teenagers.”

It’s Confirmed: Megan Fox is Now Married!

There might be a lot of broken hearts out there because Megan Fox is off the market. She’s now married to Brian Austin Green. Yes, the dude she’s been dating for the past six years:

It took two engagements, but Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green finally made it legal. Reports the couple were married at the Four Seasons Hotel resort last weekend while vacationing on the big island of Hawaii were confirmed to PEOPLE early Tuesday. “Yes they are married,” a rep for Fox says.

Fox, 24, and Green, 36, who met in 2004, initially got engaged in November 2006, only to call it off in February 2009. At the time, a source said the decision was “mutual.” Despite their split, the two were regularly spotted together and earlier this month, the actress’s rep confirmed to PEOPLE they were engaged again.

In 2009, before they called off their first engagement, Green told PEOPLE his ideal wedding would be “small.” “Originally we were talking elopement and now we might have a few people there,” he said. (source)

People magazine had a short write-up on Megan’s path towards marriage and it is kinda sweet. I know many people think Brian is a bit of a has-been but it seems like Megan really loves him and they have a good connection to one another:

When Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green first met, it was sparks – not love – at first sight. “I liked him right away,” she told the New York Times Magazine in November about the first time they met, while filming the sitcom Hope & Faith. “Everyone was around the monitor watching a scene, and Brian accidentally touched my leg. I remember literal electricity shooting through me and out me from every direction,” she says. “It was like magic.”

Relationship troubles, their 12-year age gap or buzz that she was getting close with her Transformers costar Shia LaBeouf last year aside, Fox, seemingly knew from the start that the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star was The One. Since their electrifying meeting back in 2004, Fox has only had eyes for Green – despite what her maneater reputation might otherwise convey. “I’ve only been with two men my entire life: my childhood sweetheart and Brian,” she recently told Harper’s Bazaar U.K.. “I can never have sex with someone that I don’t love, ever. The idea makes me sick.”

What she has been looking for, however, is a partner who isn’t afraid to be chivalrous because “to me being respectful is a big deal.” “I like someone who has a super gentle spirit and energy,” she told PEOPLE in September. “I’m really gentle, and so I like a boy who will treat me that way.” Green, who is now married to one of Hollywood’s hottest sex symbols, says he’s actually in love with the not-so-glammed-up Fox. “I like to see her in the morning,” he once told PEOPLE. “It doesn’t matter whether you put a bunch of makeup on her or not. She always looks hot. I stand next to her and it’s like beauty and the beast.”

Megan Fox’s Didn’t Invite Mom and Dad to Her Wedding

Megan Fox didn’t invite her own dad to her wedding with Brian Austin Green. Earlier this week it emerged that the star’s mum only found out after reading it in reports.

Now her father Franklin Fox has said he at least got a call from the star after the nuptials. He told Us Magazine: “Megan gave me a call after the ceremony. And then sent a photograph of her and Brian with her iPhone.”

Fox senior added: “My daughter looked very happy in the photograph that she sent me. I’ve met Brian before. He is a good guy…I hope they will be happy!” The former Transformers actress got wed in a small ceremony in Hawaii last week. Her mum Darlene later said: “”If there was a wedding I wasn’t there – but that’s Megan all right. She would have wanted something low-key. “She’d sneak off somewhere and surprise everybody later. If it’s true they’re married I’d be a happy mama.”

Megan Fox Explains Why Marriages in Hollywood Fail

Soon after getting married to Brian Austin Green, Megan Fox did an interview in Steppin’ Out Magazine and talked about Hollywood marriages and why they fail for many people:

“I think couples generally aren’t staying together. The divorce rate is so high right now,” she says. “But I think [the reason it's high in] Hollywood specifically is because of two things.”

“Everything is so easily accessed in Hollywood. Whatever you want you have at your fingertips. So for a lot of people, that temptation is just too much,” she said. “You lose the ability to cherish something else because there are so many others out there just waiting for you.”

The next problem, according to Fox? The amount of media coverage given to Hollywood’s high-profile relationships. “The couples that you see in the tabloids are being reported about even when there’s not even a problem,” she said. “Being on cover after cover after cover, the relationship becomes even harder to maintain than it normally is — which isn’t easy to begin with. Your life being out there in the open is almost unbearable.”

With all of that in mind, Fox says the way to make a Hollywood marriage work is “both people have to be incredibly strong people to make it through that. It’s sad, and I think the media is responsible for a lot of it. At least for planting the seed. Like I said earlier, actors are very insecure people to begin with.”

Megan Fox is Not Pregnant But Wants a Baby

A representative for Megan Fox has denied reports the actress secretly married Brian Austin Green because she is pregnant. The Transformers star wed her long term partner in a small, private ceremony in Hawaii last month during a romantic beach vacation. U.S. tabloids alleged the sexy star had wed after learning she was expecting Green’s child, claiming the actor had been spotted patting the brunette’s stomach. But Fox’s publicist insists the speculation is false, saying that the rumours are “not true”.

The actress wed her long-term lover Brian Austin Green in a secret ceremony in Hawaii on June 24. They opted for an intimate ceremony, only inviting around six guests.

The pair met in 2004 and got engaged two years later, although their romance has been turbulent. It has now been suggested the 24-year-old actress finally decided to settle down as she is keen to start a family. “Megan is a very maternal girl and she’s been pining for a baby for quite some time. It wouldn’t surprise me to hear her announce her pregnancy very soon,” a source told National Enquirer magazine.

“That’s the reason she suddenly tied the knot with Brian after all these years.” Brian, 36, and Megan ended their engagement last year, but quickly reunited. They refused to discuss the reasons for the split, and it is thought Brian proposed again at the start of last month.

They married at the Four Seasons Resort on Big Island. Brian’s eight-year-old son Kassius, his child with his ex-girlfriend Vanessa Marcil, attended the nuptials.
